Gauteng: During the past 9 years Ripples For Good (Liani
Broodryk and Maria Botha with their Jack Russels- Dante and Katryn)has been
raising awareness and leaving people inspired to make changes for the better in
their lives. With dogs chauffeuring around the Country on motorcycles heavily
packed with only the most necessary items needed to survive everyday life they
have been seen and experienced by hundreds of thousands of fellow country
people.
Since a beautiful partnership was formed between them and
MassBuild (Builders Warehouse, Builders Express, Builders Trade Depot) schools
across our Country benefit greatly. Together with staff volunteering their
expertise and time they fix leaking water pipes, taps, toilets and painting of
classrooms and other vital structural renovations enabling the schools to save
money on monthly bills and empowering them to be more self sustainable. With
kids nominated at the schools to be part of the team who “fix” their school
they get to have fun and learn valuable lessons on how to care for their
environment and nature.
As the Countrywide schools expedition started on Tuesday 15th
May with Lesedi Primary school in Soshanguve they braved the cold weather
to meet the volunteers at Builders Warehouse in Zambesi drive who already
started loading all the necessary tools and goods to fix the school. With an excitement that was almost tangible
they left in a convoy all geared and ready to contribute their time and effort
to better the lives of the kids at Lesedi Primary.
Classrooms and restrooms were painted, light bulbs were
changed, carpets were given to the grade 1-3 classes and toilets were fixed. As
the day neared to an end tired but happy faces were seen – tomorrow is another
day with another school, this time in Olievenhoutbosch together with Centurion
Builders Warehouse.
Just as the daylight broke through the residential area in
the east of Tswane the Ripples team left for Centurion. Excited to be part of
yet another magical project where a school will benefit and kids be empowered
they meandered through city traffic and followed again in a Builders convoy to
be welcomed by Steve Tswete school kids.
Seemingly unaware of the fuzz around them by taxi conflicts
and heavy police presence the team started their renovations at the school. One
team with one vision to have fun and leave the school in a better condition
carried on whilst singing. Again restrooms were painted; toilets and leaking
water pipes were fixed as well as a security gate was installed to prevent
theft of power cables.
With a very successful start of the expedition the Ripples
team together with their MassBuild partners are now making their way towards
the Orange Freestate Province then Northern Cape. Visit their websites and
social networking platforms and become part of this wonderful initiative
